Tunnel Book with Pop-ups

This week's project is a 3D book. I chose to make a tunnel book and immediately thought of the Forbidden City in Beijing. I added the pop-ups. The base of this book is one piece of paper.

Peacelines

Peacelines are a euphemistic way to refer to barriers, sometimes erected overnight with temporary intent, other times meant to endure.

One Piece of Paper

I just started a Handmade Book Art class and the first project is books made from one piece of paper. There are different structures to play with. This one is the 2 Minute book; that's 2 minutes to fold.

The piece of paper, a map, is roughly 8" x 14".

I chose a subject that needs clarification in my city.

Can't get over it

A new start on one of the "chalk board" walls. This time: can't get over it. A drive over the prairies this weekend helped.

The green line is masking tape, which is not a permanent part of the painting.

Survivors

Today I set about creating some order in my studio. I found these pieces tucked in a bin. They are preparatory work for the Brains, Hearts and Stomachs paintings (see my website for the paintings and statement) and despite several opportunities to discard them, I have continued to hold them back.

Brains - 15" x 15"   38cm x 38cm
Hearts - 15" x 15"   38cm x 38cm
Stomachs - 15" x 15"    46cm x 46cm

All three are oil on board.
