Two Books For Collections (Happy Spring)
When I am out and about I pick things up: business cards, stickers, well-designed advertising fliers, and little artsy bits. Sometimes I hold on to colour combinations that I like. Then I stash them and forget about them. My new answer? A Book For Collections. I made two: one for me, the other is a gift.
The pages are from the index of an out-dated atlas. |

Good Intentions - Return
Back in June and July 2012 I was working on a variety of approaches to walls of good intentions. The idea being that people, governments, agencies, churches, etc. can intend well, but a) are blinded by their own sense of right, and b) those filters can prevent seeing another truth in a situation. I have been looking at these off and on for the intervening months. They needed something to make the images hold.
Now I have this:

Brains, Hearts and Stomachs: The Paintings and the EP
Brains 53" x 31" 135cm x 79cm oil on canvas |
Brains, Hearts and Stomachs: The Emotional Centres Become 'Neat and Genteel' Wallpaper
I did these paintings in 2010 (for more about them click on the link above). Now the paintings and the stencils involved have received the ultimate vote of approval: my daughter is using them on her website and her new EP. Check out Brains, Hearts and Stomachs. Look and listen!
By the way, I used her face on the Brains painting. Maybe that is why she prefers it to the others.

Stomachs 53" x 31" 135cm x 79cm oil on canvas |

Under ... Under is Over...Under & Out...Under Done
Part of my intent here is to show process.
"Under" has been particularly hard for me to work on; I get claustrophobic just thinking about it. I came up with some formal qualities that pleased me well enough. The last time you saw 'Under' it was like this. Given all the tape, it looked rough and as I said then, I was not distressed.
Here it is, taped removed.
I added the part that I meant as a positive force, but I found that it was only confusing.
I brightened the flashlights.....
.....and I dulled them down.
Likely not.
